On 30th September 2016, the Spend Analysis contract with ABS expired. Trusts are facing ever increasing pressures to identify and realise savings and as a result several South West Trusts began to look at the market for spend analysis tools. A number of contributing Trusts had determined that the existing system was no longer fit for purpose and had moved to alternatives. This led to a decision not to renew the contract.
Several regional Trusts have adopted Bravo Health’s spend Analytics tool. This includes Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust and Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
In July, in connection with Lord Carter initiatives, NHS Improvement awarded a national contract to AdviseInc to provide price benchmarking services to all Acute Trusts in England. The system is called the Purchasing Price Index Benchmark (PPIB) and currently contains 2016 data from all Acutes. It is expected to be made available to all Trusts in the next few months. This system is funded centrally so will be made available to Trusts at no cost. Procurement professionals in Trusts will be called upon to use this system to identify opportunities, liaising with their counterparts at other Trusts to explore and realise savings.
